The Alameda All Stars was formed in 1979 and has had many line-ups throughout the years. In 1990, the band was graced with the presence of blues legend Gregg Allman when he showed up to sit in with the band. They began performing shows together as Gregg Allman & Friends, and in 1995 Mark McGee claimed the lead guitar slot. Mark played with Gregg for over ten years (1995-2004 & 2007), making Mark the longest-running guitarist in Gregg's solo career. The All Stars' involvement as Gregg's band is now regarded as the most powerful line-up in the history of Gregg's solo band.
The All Stars have performed shows with Lynyrd Skynyrd, Styx, Journey, 38 Special, Night Ranger, The Tubes, Doobie Brothers, Jefferson Starship, Edgar Winter, Brian Auger, Leslie West, Denny Laine (Paul McCartney & Wings) and others. They've also performed at concerts such as the 40th Anniversary Summer of Love concert (2007) and at 2009's West Fest (40th Anniversary of Woodstock concert) to an attendance of nearly 100,000 people.
